Passport Renewal by Mail
Review eligibility, sign the correct form, and build a mail-renewal package without DS-11 or acceptance-facility instructions.
Mail renewals use Form DS-82. Sign and date the form before mailing it. Postal employees should not review the application or charge the $35 acceptance-facility fee.
Check that you can renew by mail
You generally must be able to submit your most recent passport, and it must be undamaged, issued when you were age 16 or older, issued within the last 15 years, and in your current name unless you provide a qualifying legal name-change document.
If you do not meet the official eligibility rules, use the in-person new-passport route instead.

- Use the official form filler and print single-sided.
- Sign and date Form DS-82.
- Check your passport, photo, name-change evidence, and payment against the official checklist.
- Follow the current State Department mailing address and envelope instructions for your chosen service.
